406 Jersey day
We invite you to join our community to help raise money for the BackPack Meals and Pantry programs. It is simple…on Friday, April 4th, make a donation to the Food Insecurity programs. Then show your support by wearing your favorite team jersey or 406 shirt for any sport or team. You will be supporting your favorite team and fighting hunger in our community at the same time!
A LITTLE ABOUT THE FOUNDATION'S FOOD INSECURITIES PROGRAMS:
The mission of the BackPack Program is to meet the needs of students who are struggling with hunger outside of the classroom by providing them with nutritious and easy to prepare food to take home over weekends and extended school breaks. 700 elementary students receive BackPack meal kits each Friday (a number that has increased significantly since August). There are no qualifying requirements to receive a kit and we rely on the information from school personnel to know who needs the meals most.
Additionally, food pantries are located in all of our schools. We are currently serving over 700 students each week who are struggling with food insecurity outside of school. Students are able to access the pantries to take food and personal hygiene items they need with no questions asked.
SO WHAT IS 406 JERSEY DAY?
The goal of the 406 Jersey Day is to increase awareness about the program in the community, as well as raise additional funds to help support the program. With additional funds, coordinators are able to supplement kits with additional needs such as fresh foods, milk and toiletry items to further aid students and their families.
